What is the STEAM Summer Program?
S.T.E.A.M. is an acronym that stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. You may have heard of STEM - we've included art, too because design and creativity is part of everything we do. The goal of STEM/STEAM is to develop critical thinking and design skills to prepare learners for the 21st century.
Our goal is to keep learners engaged and excited about learning through the summer months. Our program is designed to allow students of all abilities opportunities to succeed. It is so interactive that participants don’t realize they’re “working” and since it doesn’t feel like school, they don’t realize they’re learning!
What do participants do at the STEAM Summer Program?
All kinds of awesome things! Each week is centered around an exciting theme. This summer we are offering two fun-filled weeks: “Adventure Around the World” and “Sports Science”. Through these themes, students will be challenged to solve problems while rotating rotating through activity stations run by certified educators and engineers. This will include engineering design challenges, art activities, exploring science, experimenting, and more hands-on fun.
Do participants eat lunch there?
Yes! We've extended the length of the program for 2017 to squeeze in more activity time and include a half hour lunch break. Please pack a lunch for your child (no peanuts, please). We provide snacks and drinks. If a child does not pack a lunch, we'll assume they'll eat when they get home at 1pm and they may snack during the break.
What should participants bring?
Science and art can get messy, so wear comfortable clothes and sneakers that you’re okay getting a little wet/messy in. Feel free to embrace the themes and dress accordingly. Some of our messier activities will be outside, so sunscreen is a good idea!
Do you offer discounts?
Yes! We offer a sibling discount (5% off registration for each child) and a 10% discount if you register for both weeks. Because Mantua Township Schools host our program, we offer a 20% discount to Mantua students. You can also save big by registering early. The program cost increases on February 1 and May 1.
Do I need to pay in full when I register?
No! You should register early to take advantage of special pricing, as the cost increases as the summer approaches. Reserve your child's spot with a minimum deposit of $80. Full payment is due by June 1.
Can I request my child be grouped with his/her friends?
Absolutely! If your child is registering for a session with friends, you may request them to be together and we will do our best to have them grouped together. Please email us your request at firstname.lastname@example.org. Proper notice is appreciated.
Do you take volunteers?
We offer a limited number of Counselor-in-Training positions for each session. This volunteer opportunity is for teens ages 14-17 who want to further develop their leadership skills. CIT's are selected based on submission of an application and letter of recommendation. The application can be found on the registration page.
Be sure to let us know if your child has food allergies, so we can accommodate you however possible! If you prefer, you are welcome to bring your own snacks.
